Why local shops are important to me

In my opinion, shopping locally is extremely important because it helps keep local wealth in the area.

I shop locally and try my best to buy quality produce, but in addition shop online so it’s fair to say my shopping pattern is a mixture.

Since launching my own products, the importance of shopping locally has come to the fore for me in a way where people appear to be loyal to you and your products.

In June 2015 I launched Tanya Whitebits Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. I went to all the local shops about stocking the product, and I’m delighted with Fferyllwyr Llyn in Nefyn and Spar y Maes in Pwllheli because they were the first suppliers to give me a chance. Spar y Maes is well known for supporting small local businesses so it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to sell there. I also had the opportunity to launch the product officially by sharing Fferyllwyr Llyn’s launch day in Llanbedrog.

The sales went so well, Spar stocked Tanya Whitebits in Eurospar Dolgellau and Blaenau Ffestiniog by directing me to Spars in Conwy from selling in Llanrwst, Penmaenmawr and Rhos on Sea.

Several hair and beauty shops have invested in Tanya Whitebits including Beautique in Porthmadog and Stiwdio Solo in Pwllheli.

So to me shopping locally is important, but it’s also important having the opportunity from suppliers too. It has allowed the business to grow, and in an age where people are losing jobs around me in the Council it’s a comfort to know that I’m continuing to get local support in Gwynedd and the product is still growing.

Recently Tanya Whtebits has been nominated ‘Virgin Media pioneers of the week’ and ‘Network She’s new business of the year’ on International Women’s Day. We’re still looking for suppliers and I can be contacted on 07796 222 802 or post@tanyawhitebits.co.uk.
